By now, you’re familiar with the narrative of the Dallas mayoral race.
Former police chief David Kunkle has lots of name recognition but very little campaign money to back it up.
Former Pizza Hut chief executive Mike Rawlings is raising money by the bucket and building not only his name recognition but also an impressive campaign organization.
Council member Ron Natinsky falls somewhere in the middle.
Well, today is the last campaign finance report we will get before the May 14 election.
Kunkle’s numbers are in, and they don’t indicate he will be able to make a money-fueled push in the final week.
In April and the first few days of May, he raised $56,860.50. He spent $84,369.74, using funds he had left over when he filed his first finance report on April 4.
Kunkle’s numbers do show, however, that, once again, he was able to raise money from more than 400 donors. Most of them just didn’t have much to give. Many of his donations are for less than $100.
I’m waiting on reports from Rawlings, Natinsky and Edward Okpa, who trailed everyone in fundraising in the first report.
