The Lakers won't be putting a max free agent next to Anthony Davis and LeBron – Woj | SportsCenter – Dallas Video

Adrian Wojnarowski joins Keith Olbermann to talk about the Anthony Davis trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, which the New Orleans Pelicans are insisting gets done on July 6, preventing the Lakers from having the salary cap room to chase a max-level free agent (e.g. Kawhi Leonard, Kemba Walker) next to AD and LeBron James. Woj then (1:28) talks about where the Boston Celtics go from here, and why Mike Conley Jr. is the most likely player to be traded before the 2019 NBA draft.

  17. Beverly/ Rondo, Bojan Bogdanovic, Javale, Reggie Bullock, I'd also keep Caruso – cheap solid combo guard, sharp shooter. That's ~20m over the cap

  21. People said the same shit about nick van exel and Eddie Jones for shaq, which is crazy in hindsight . The fact is you could raid the d league , you’ve got two generational talents who transform the players around them , one on the interior one on the perimeter . Arguably the two best players out of the triple threat in the last 20 years , the only other greater being Kobe .

  22. 5 players on the roster. Good luck winning when your bench is comprised of spare parts getting paid chump change. Its not like the first or 2nd unit is going to have chemistry when you bring in 11 new guys and some low dollar pieces. Make no mistake they will make the playoffs but they are going to lose a shit ton of games and look get embarrassed a few times. If they can't field a 2nd unit that gets you could see them getting worked by playoff teams that already have chemistry and a developed bench. See OKC switched on in a series. Don't sleep on young ascending squads such as Utah and Portland that have no roster turnover. This LA team won't go through the playoffs with homecourt

  23. That’s the right decision. You already have 2 top 5 players, surround them with strong 3-D players like Beverly, Green, Carroll and Dedmon and your in a great position as a team next season

  24. right now it doesn't look like anyone wants Rondo so sign him with veteran minimum contract. Now you have a good PG who has played with AD and Lebron. Next sign some 3-D players like Ariza, Danny Green or resign Bullock. Also dont forget McGee he's underrated as fuck. Definitely need to break that money for multiple players.

  26. Lakers need to sign Danny Green. Forget the max-level free agent. Danny Green, Rondo, Bullock, Reddick, Ariza, Seth Curry, McGee, Bagnodovic so many options.

  29. This trade is a disaster. Not only did the Lakers mortgage their future, they also hitched their wagon to a 35 (early next season) year old player who is coming off an injury plagued season. The key to this trade is not Anthony Davis. He has proven for 7 years that he cannot carry a team by himself. In his defense…there are very few that can (maybe a young LBJ could). The key to this trade is the the ability for New Orleans to swap draft position, and the lack of protection for the draft picks that were traded.

I will play Nostradamus: The Lakers will have a successful season with a group of garbage players, AD, and a ever so slightly declining LBJ. It is a coin flip if the trash that LA gets to play guard can stop any of the lights out 3 point shooters that play guard in the West. Either way…year one is the pinnacle for the Lakers for the next decade. No draft picks, no cap space, no youth, an aging superstar (LBJ), and a top 5 talent who has proven that he can't carry a team without help.

Where will the help come from? N.O. will have more wins than LA this year. Zion will be a prodigy. Ball will stay healthy. Hart will explode. Brandon Ingram will average 25 ppg. And there will be a #4 draft pick or a proven vet (trade) to add to the mix. For christ's sake, New Orleans didn't even want Lonzo Ball…they have Holiday. They will have a better point guard on their bench than the LA starter (unless LA uses ALL of it's cap space on one player).

Going forward…every year N.O. has a better record than LA, they'll get either LA's pick…or swap picks. This trade will damage LA until 2030. The only difference between this trade and the Vikings trade for Hershel Walker is that…actually…there is no difference. Enjoy Anthony Freakin Davis and a bunch of trash…because that's the future. And…hope to god AD meshes with Lebron…because if he does not, he'll not resign with LA. Do you really think that Pelinka and Buss are capable of righting the ship? Welcome to New Jersey…because that's our lot in life until current kindergartners graduate from HS. STUPID DESPERATE MORONIC MOVE!!!!

PS: Bet the under on LA wins and the over on New Orleans wins. And in the future if you are negotiating with a desperate team…don't act even more desperate than them. Who gives up everything for a stupid gamble? Ted Steptien reincarnated.

PSS: I AM a Laker fan and I will watch this crapfest.

  31. They won't???
    They can't.
    23 million ain't enough.
Even if they get a max player for 23 million – which they won't – where is the rest of the team?
I knew ad wouldn't forfeit 4 million for the sake of the team.
Still not enough even if they did.
Once he gets injured – and he will – that's it – game over.

  32. I hate the trade. The best thing that the Lakers can do right now is split the cash. Look for 1-2 guys with something left to prove (Carmelo, Vince Carter, Tony Parker), and a few athletes, and a few shooters. Last year Julius Randle only got 9M…decent players will be available. Jimmer Fredette!!!!
